Employment, Training and Education can be accessed by anyone living or working in Reading. Young children can access 15 hours of free childcare/education from the term after their third birthday, a limited number of 2 year olds can access 2 year funded places (meeting the eligibility criteria) they will attend a primary school between the ages of 4 to 5 and 11 and transition to secondary school when they are 11. Once they are 16 they can stay on at the schools 6th form (if they can offer this option) or attend a 6th form college, alternatively take on an apprenticeship or a job opportunity.

Adult learning can help you to develop skills and assist you in to enrolling on to a full time course or to help you into employment. In Reading New Directions can offer a wide range of courses at a range of levels and are available throughout Reading at many local venues including Children's Centres, schools and community centres. There are also other voluntary organisation who can also offer advice and support. Your local Job Centre Plus can also offer advice and guidance on course and employment opportunities meeting your requirements.

Getting into or staying in employment can sometimes be difficult, children or other family commitments may cause a concern. You may need some advice or support to manage all the issues involved; this may be through local groups or from national websites or help lines.
