Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings
Description
I am an Ofsted Registered Childminder in Reading since 1998.
My last Ofsted inspection was good in 2020. I can except children who are eligible for the 3year funding.
In my setting, each child that I look after is valued as an individual. Activities are planned for their development and needs along side thier personal interests and preferences.
June 2022
1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
I observe and assess the children regularly during every day routines and activities. Any concerns that parents bring to my attention. I use the information to make my judgement against The Early Years Outcomes. This allows me to share with families what concerns I may have about their child's development. I will also seek advice from other childminders and the early years service for advice.
2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
Once I've had permission from the family, I will work together with them with the necessary professionals (speech therapists etc) to support their child's needs.
I will keep parents informed about their child with regular meetings and ongoing assessments.
3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
As a childminder I do all my planning based on the individual needs of the children in my care.
Goals are set through observations of current curriculum engagement, the child's development stages and the child's individual interests.
4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
All activities are based on the child's individual needs and adapted according to their development stage. I will work with the families, nursery, school and other professions to best support the child's needs.
5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
I am available and have worked with local professionals, the local children's centre, early years team at the local authority.
I am also willing to attend training courses. As I am a lone worker, I can offer a child one to one support.
6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
I will monitor your child's progress using the early year's outcomes. Regular observations, Next Steps, two year checks etc.
All the information is available to parents at any time. However, a meeting will be set up once a term where parents have a chance to review their child's progress, observations etc and to provide feedback.
Parents also get a diary where they can see what activities we've been doing during the month . It also gives the parents a chance to add feedback too.
7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
As a childminder, safety is main priority in my setting. Therefore, I work within my ratio at all times. This allows me to be available to the individual needs of the children.
Because my ratios are low, I can give the children lots of individual attention help and support so they can join in with any appropriate activities.
A risk assessment is also completed for any outings or trips. I work with parents and other professions on how it is best to support the child in activities and outings.
8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
My house is not accessible for wheelchair use but I do meet a range of other needs for autism or those with English and an additional language.
9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
Your child will be familliar with the nursery or school as I drop off and collect from there daily.
As the time gets closer to when they start. I will plan activities through books, role play and games. I will also work closely with the setting and ask for any advice that they feel will help to support your child transition.
10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
I ask parents to give feedback whenever they feel is needed.
I have visits from the local authority to give me updates and advice when needed.
Ofsted inspections.
I also regularly self evaluate my setting and make changes and improvements frequently
11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
You can get in contact directly to me by email or mobile
(Email natasha3226@hotmail.com Tel 07941094537
http://www.childcareinreading.com
12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
I encourage families to voice any concerns that they may have at all times. Quickly together we can resolve concerns that arise.
I have a formal complaint policy which I follow. There is also a complaints book that is free and at hand for families to write in.
