Description

Goldilocks Nursery is based in the heart of Tilehurst Village. We are a 99 place day nursery with five base rooms, each with access to a garden area. We offer part/full time care for children aged 0-5 years.

Our ethos is to offer a home to home experience to all children. Quality and education is at the heart of all we do to ensure all the children feel safe and secure throughout their day.

Updated - November 2023

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Gathering information from a child's key person, Parents', a personal learning journey, progress tracker and language monitoring tool, we can establish a child with developmental delays or who may be lacking in any of the 7 areas of learning.

It may be the Parent or key person, who makes an initial observation or it may be made using the evidence above. In any of these cases, we will discuss our concerns with you, the Parent, to ensure your input at all times.

We will support a Parent wanting to seek external support/advice and work with them to support each individual child's needs.

Each key person is responsible for recording observations and photographs in a Learning Journey and will use this information to build next steps for their key child. This information can be shared with relevant personnel to offer extra support i.e. speech & language or child education professionals.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

We aim to work in partnership with Parents from the day you join us. We ask for information to add to Learning Journeys (available to Parents at all times)

To ensure your child is fully supported, we will keep you updated in Person and via email where necessary. Your child's key person will work with our nominated SEN and any outside agencies as required.

We also invite Parents to voice ideas/opinions about the nursery as a whole, via our Parent Forum. Parents' pass ideas to our Parent reps, who meet with us every three months, where we discuss topics raised.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

Using observations and photographs, we will build next steps to suit each individual child's needs. Our SEN and key person will work together to ensure your child can be supported, yet also learn to independent and recognise their own personal needs.

Our SEN will work with Parents and a Key person to write Individual Play Plans, setting achievable targets and monitoring progress.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

Your child has a key person to ensure a strong bond and to offer security whilst at nursery. The key person gets to know your child's preferences and their preferred learning style and can adapt their next steps/targets accordingly.

We can offer specific learning tools, such as visual prompts, tailored language (i.e. Signing) and any preferred toys/aids specific to your child's needs.

We also work with outside agencies (e.g. Speech and language or play professionals) who can support us with relevant games/actions.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

We work closely with our children's centre and we have staff on site who specialise in SEN, sign language and P.L.A.Y. We welcome outside agencies to our setting where appropriate and share every step of a child's learning and development with the Parents.

Support for Parents is offered where appropriate, in a group or 1:1 meetings.

Every child is unique and given individual support where necessary. Support may be as simple as offering support with social skills or supporting a child with a more serious developmental delay.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

All aspects of your child's progress will be monitored within the setting and shared with Parents/professionals accordingly.

We review targets/ individual play plans regularly, to ensure we can offer ongoing support to your child. If a child attends a second setting, we will communicate with the 2nd key person to ensure we are working together to build achievable targets and not overlap your child's ongoing learning.

Your child will always be given an opportunity to choose a balance of child led and adult led activities to reach targets.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

Offering the same opportunities to each child in our care, we will adapt activities/plans to each individuals needs.

Although activities and next steps are built for individual key children, peer groups are encouraged to participate at all times. If a child is not keen to join an activity, there are always other choices and the activity they refused will be offered again.

Risk assessments are completed for all external activities/visits to ensure we have a good understanding of an area before we visit with the children. This ensures we can prepare ourselves and ensure we have all the support we need for each situation.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

Entrances to our buildings have ramp access and toilets are all on lower levels. Support for mobility difficulties can be offered and we will go out of our way to meet the needs of a parent & child.

For example, our Baby room is on the first floor of the nursery. If a parent could not get up the stairs, we would ensure staff were available to support the Parent accessing the baby room each day. We can arrange settling in sessions with the key person on the ground floor and show the Parent our baby room on the 4 CCTV cameras we have in place, where they can watch their child play.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

Working with our SEN, Parents, key person and outside agencies, we will ensure a child has some knowledge of their next setting. This maybe with visits, perhaps a Teacher visiting the nursery a number of times, a child visiting the new setting and spending time with the current key person, handing over valuable knowledge and understanding of the child.

Giving the new setting access to the child's learning journey, can support the transition.

Talking about schools, using group time, 1:1 sessions, books and pictures, can all help the child's understanding of what lies ahead.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

Our Policies:

2. Behaviour Policy

3. Admission & Key Person Policy

6. Parental Involvement

8. Equality & Diversity Policy

9. Inclusion Policy.

21. Early Years Foundation Stage

33. Transition Policy

All the policies listed above can support our management team monitoring and assessing our effectiveness of our SEN provision. We offer an 'open door' policy for Parents and encourage their input, not only into their own child's learning and development, but to the nursery as a whole.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Please visit our website www.goldilocksnursery.co.uk.

We would love an opportunity to show you our nursery environment, so please call us on 01189 451 129 to arrange a visit.

If you choose us to care for your child, we ask you to complete a registration form. Once received, we charge a £40 registration fee and 1 weeks returnable deposit to confirm your place with us.

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

We encourage Parents to share their views with us in person or if preferred via letter/email. Our 'open door' policy means we are available to speak to Parents daily between 7.30am - 6pm.

Parents are also invited to share ideas/views on how we can support them via our Parent Forum. This means Parents are encouraged to be a part of their child's learning and development as well as the nursery as a whole.
