We have an enclosed garden.

Indoors i try to keep things open for children to enjoy learning through play and structured activities. I follow the EYFS and like to concentrate on certain topics at different times of the year.

I have a sleep room to allow nap times if needed with all their own bedding.

We go on regular Outings to woodlands, parks and river walks. I also organise trips to local attractions.

Description

I am a home away from home setting where we learn through play and activities. I follow the EYFS and provide learning journals for all children under 5. I have 2 large rooms for play and adult led activities with an enclosed rear garden.

We have a dog, cat, guinea pigs and fish which are a great asset to teach children many things.

I have a role play shed in the garden where we change to suit our themes. I have access to an allotment where we grow our own vegetables to eat and teach children about planting and growing.

We attend Playgroups and trips outside the setting to enhance learning and social skills.

Updated January 2024

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

I will assess children on their needs by;

Talking to parents and asking for any medical information, red book or referrals if any

Observations

Daily diary on Tapestry

language tool

I am also happy to work with other professionals regarding an individual plan if needed.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

I send termly reports to show the child's developments. I am happy to have face to face support meetings with families and other care professionals to ensure we are doing and getting the best support for the child. I offer parent questionnaires for constant feedback and welcome any questions or suggestions regarding my practise. If i were to have concerns i would ask for a more formal meeting to discuss all areas of the child's needs.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

The great thing about the curriculum is it is open and free to use different activities, trips, play to ensure the children are meeting their developmental stages whilst learning the curriculum. Most of the activities i plan in great length and care to ensure it is suitable for all or can be adapted to individual needs. I plan these around the children's interests or events and topics of importance.. I then use my observations to create next steps for each child and ensure my planning allows them to meet these steps with me or at home. I have also seeked advice from other professionals if there is an area i need assistance with.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

I work with the child/family and professionals to support the child's needs and create an educational plan to ensure we are all aligned. I can tailor my resources and activities to support the child's needs. I am very keen to enhance my experience and knowledge so have completed training in Understanding Autism, challenging behaviours and currently studying Makaton and BSL.

If a child needed specific care i am also happy to attend any further training to help me offer the best support.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I work with local children centres and early years teams. I also have access to various training and resources

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

I will use development matters/early years outcomes, record observations in the child's learning journal as well as share daily logs on Tapestry. You will also receive a termly report which explains the developmental stages of the child and areas of development. This will be highlighted in their next steps too.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

I plan each month in advance. I ensure all activities/trips can be adapted to include all children and their SEN needs. I also carry out risk assessments for trips, outings and new activities in the setting which will highlight any areas that may need changing or adapting to be inclusive to all.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

I am unfortunately unable to accommodate a wheelchair due to the restrictions of the building. I do have a flat garden and patio that can be accessed by a ramp and a downstairs toilet.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

When you child is ready to start the transition to school or a new setting it is important to share their learning journals and build good relationships with the new care provider to ensure a smooth, trouble free transition. I am happy to make visits with the children to their new setting, have meetings to share information that i may use to help the children with me. I also have resources such as books, short films about new starts.

I have tried to align my practices with the local schools which also helps provide a familiarity to the children starting school.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

I complete and update an Ofsted self evaluation, i have an action plan that i work towards and i also ask for parent feedback to consider any suggestions they may make.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Ashley Johnson

07909522916

messylittlehandschildcare@hotmail.com

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

I welcome feedback at anytime, this can be verbally, via email or a parent questionaire.

I also have a complaints policy
