We are pleased to confirm that the venue for our Self-Management Programme in Reading will be the Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC), 35-39 London Street, Reading, RG1 4PS.
There are still a good number of places available for people with Parkinson’s and/or current carers of people with the condition and it is free to attend. We know that people sometimes need encouragement from a trusted professional, such as yourself, to consider booking on a programme such as this. Also, you may well be in contact with people with Parkinson’s and their partners and carers who are not connected with Parkinson’s UK.
Delivered over 6 weeks (2½ hours per week) our self-management groups are led by trained volunteer facilitators. These facilitators are either people with Parkinson’s and/or current carers of people with the condition.
Our experience is that people really value the chance to meet others and talk through some of the bigger questions about life with Parkinson’s.
People tell us that as a result of attending the programme they feel:
- armed with information and knowledge
- more confident, positive, in control and able to move forward
- less alone as a result of meeting others
Participants also say they gain:
- greater self-awareness and insight
- a personal action plan for doing specific things such as exercise, hobbies and therapeutic activities
- improved speech as a result of talking in the group
The Self-Management Group in Reading will meet as follows:
Dates: 1 May, 8 May, 15 May, 22 May, 29 May and 5 June
Time: 1:00pm – 3:30pm
Venue: Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC), 35-39 London Street, Reading, RG1 4PS.
