Being in care can be a very challenging and difficult time for any young person. In Reading, we want to make sure that children and young people who are in-care are provided with the support and opportunities they need to enjoy their lives and be successful.
Reading Borough Council have a Pledge for Looked After children and Young People. This is the Councils promise to you as a young person in its care. It is in two versions, one for those of you at Primary school and younger, and those at Secondary School and leaving care. If you see something in the pledge which isn't happening for you, you need to make your social-worker aware of this, so that they can make sure it does. Below you will also see a leaflet on how we will achieve each part of the pledge. We carried out a consultation at the October Celebration event to find out how we are doing on the pledge - you can see the results below.
You can also use the MoMo App to let us know if things need changing - it can also help you prepare for meetings. Makesure you check it out and download it onto your smartphone or tablet.
If you are after sources of support or activities, make sure you check out all the activities linked to this page, and in the Things to Do section of this site.
Finally, we want to hear from you, and get you involved in helping us improve our services. During the 2015 Easter Holidays, we held the Big Easter Event - see the event report here. There are also lots of ways to directly get involved - why not join the Your Destiny Your Choice Leadership Group, meeting directly with service managers on a regular basis!
