Money matters - practical help for residents struggling with their finances

Money Matters is a touchdown website for any residents of Reading who are struggling with their finances, from difficulties in paying their rent to putting food on the table. This website will help them to find the right advice and support they need:

  • Money, advice
  • Debt options
  • Benefits
  • Rent arrears and evictions
  • Redundancy
  • Food parcels
  • Loan sharks
  • Fraud

According to the Financial Conduct Authority Financial Lives 2020 Survey found that only 1.7m people accessed debt advice between March and October 2020, however 6.8m people may have benefited from it. The main barriers to accessing advice are 35% embarrassment and 31% lack of awareness.

The aim of the website is to raise awareness and pull together all available support and advice in on place to make it easier for all residents who may be struggling with their money to get the help they need. This includes local and national advice agencies, and self-help material.

We know money advice and early intervention work improves people’s quality of life and life chances, we want to use the Money Matters website to increase the numbers of people getting support, advice and to remove the embarrassment.
