Lion Ward is open 24 hours for all children receiving chemotherapy to provide all supportive care. Chemotherapy is administered mainly on a Tuesday morning in the weekly Oncology clinic. Low risk chemotherapy can be administered Monday to Friday on the ward or at home by the Clinical Nurse Specialists. The Clinical Nurse Specialists also provide visits to nursery’s, pre-schools and Schools to provide education for those caring for the children whilst they are on treatment. This ensures the children can continue to receive valuable education and time with their peers. We also work with the Children’s Community Nurses form BHFT who provide line care and blood sampling service in the community to reduce the need for the child and family to attend the hospital.
