Sophie Chadwick

I am an Ofsted-registered childminder based near the University. In my latest Ofsted inspection I was graded Good.

My priorities are providing a home-from-home environment where children can feel safe and secure. I believe that children learn best and achieve their full potential when they are happy and having fun. We enjoy outside activities on a daily basis and regularly attend local toddler groups and activities within the community.

I enjoy working with parents to ensure their child's needs are being met. I am happy to adapt my routines to help meet parents' and children's requirements.

I have a warm and welcoming home with my husband, two daughters, two cats and tank of fish!

Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

Description

I am an Ofsted-registered childminder based near the University. I have been childminding since March 2015. I live with my husband, two daughters and two cats. I can accept children who are eligible for the 2 year Funding.

I aim to provide a warm and welcoming environment for all the children in my care, helping them feel secure and able to reach their full potential.

Reviewed May 2023

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

I ask parents to provide any information they have regarding their child's educational needs. I also carry out regular observations of the children to monitor their development and check it against the development matters guidance so that I can identify if a child might be falling behind in any of the prime areas of learning. With consent from parents I can also seek help or advice from other professionals.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

I will keep a daily diary and development tracking document for your child. I will also make myself available to talk to you at a convenient time.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

I will use the EYFS curriculum as a guide, but I will take the child's level of development and particular needs and interests into consideration when planning activities.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

I base my activities on the children's individual needs and use my observations and tracking document to plan for their next steps.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

If a child needed extra support I would seek help from other professionals. I would also look to take part in specialised training.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

I carry out regular observations of the children and complete a tracking document for them. The tracking document is sent home for parents to read through and I welcome any input from parents.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

I plan activities that all of the children can take part in. I work within the ratio of children permitted which ensures I have time to help each child on an individual basis.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

There is a small step into the house and the only toilet is located upstairs, so I am unlikely to be able to accommodate wheelchair users or children with mobility difficulties. I am willing to make reasonable adjustments.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

I will work together with parents to prepare their child for the change and I will work with the new setting or school by sharing any relevant information.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

I ask parents to complete an evaluation form and discuss any ideas for improvements with me. I will use this information to adapt my service to ensure that the child's needs are being met.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Myself, Sophie Chadwick.

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

I encourage parents to discuss any feedback or complaints directly with me so that we can work together to overcome any problems. I have a complaints policy which parents are given a copy of. I regularly ask parents to complete an evaluation form to help me identify areas for improvement.
