Younger People With Dementia (Berkshire)
Who are we?
Younger People with Dementia (Berkshire) CIO was set up in 2012 to fill a gap in provision for those with young onset dementia and their family and carers. Our aim was to provide meaningful respite that worked with current provision over the working week. Our workshops are offered to those living in Berkshire.
What do we do?
We provide free workshops and short term 1:1 support to those with young onset dementia. Examples of workshops provided include a choir, cycling, katakanuing, art, walking, gardening, furniture restoration and gardening. We are continually adding to our range of workshops to meet the interests of those with young onset dementia. Our 1:1 support is tailored to the interests of the individual and can for example include shopping, bowling, swimming or dog walking. We also provide an education course to those with young onset dementia and their family and carers, access to an Admiral Nurse and a Carer Support Group. All venues are checked for suitability to support varying needs.
How can you use our services?
If you have a diagnosis of young onset dementia (i.e. diagnosed with dementia under the age of 65) and live in Berkshire, then you can access our services. You can refer yourself and contact us direct or you can be referred to us by your GP or your Memory Clinic. We will then meet with you to determine what services are right for you.
