We are a small friendly team, who are devoted to the children in our care and love showcasing our nursery to new Parents.
Local Offer Updated - October 2020
1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
We have a dedicated SENCO representative and aim to continually update our related SENCO training to the children in our care.
We work with local children's centres and outside agencies when appropriate and seek to support each individual family's needs.
Our staff are all DBS checked, first aid trained and receive updated safeguarding training.
2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
We encourage a secure Nursery-Parent partnership by offering various methods of communication, to suit all Parent's needs, including verbal handover, a secure server option where Parents can log in, regular Parent Evenings and a Parent Forum.
We always have a manager available and a member of each base room team is on site throughout the day, to feed back to Parents at handover times and we encourage Parents to engage with us daily about their child's wellbeing.
3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
As qualified practitioners, we know that every child is unique. Everyone has different interests and preferred ways to play, so as a Key Person we learn about our key child and plan activities around a chld's individual interests to promote personal development.
We work to build relationships with new families to learn as much about a child as we can before they join us. This enables us to plan activities that excite and interest a child on initial visits and aid settling in.
For our children aged 0-2 years we focus on the prime areas of learning:
Personal, Social and Emotional development
Communication and Language
Physical development
For our children aged 2-5 years we move on to include:
Understanding of the World
Literacy
Maths
Expressive Arts and Design
4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
We endeavour to have a key person who the child has a natural bond with to secure a strong relationship.
The EYFS can be adjusted to meet the need of each child. A Key Person will build age and ability related activities to support a child's learning and we always set achievable targets to build self esteem.
We encourage sign language (baby signing and macketon) and use flash cards and photographs to encourage communication.
5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
Our ethos is to learn through play and we can tailor extra curriculum activities such as Boogie Mites (physical development) and Forest School Learning to a child's interest and ability.
With the help and support of outside agencies, we may be in a position to apply for additional 1:1 funding for children who need additional support.
6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
We encourage Parents to be involved with their child's progress with us and are always on hand for a friendly chat.
We use tablets to upload information about meal times/ nappies/ sleep times and take regular photographs which we link to the Early Years Foundation Stage targets, showing a child's development progress. Parents can access this secure information daily by using a personal log in, set up when you join us.
We offer termly Parents evenings, where key workers spend time with Parents talking about their child's development and how we can encourage learning at home and at nursery.
For our older children we offer BLAST and PHONICS and this information can be shared with Parents to support learning at home.
7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
We encourage families to support us and will always pre visit a setting where may consider visiting.
I we feel the setting is suitable we will complete a risk assessment to ensure the safety of our children for the duration of the visit.
This ensures we have previous knowledge of wheelchair access, toilets etc and can support our children accordingly.
8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
Our ground level has access for wheelchairs, via a fire exit located in the main reception area. This also gives access to the garden area.
The upstairs floors can only be accessed via a staircase.
9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
We use BLAST - a pre phonics learning system designed to encourage children to develop listening skills and understanding.
We follow this with PHONICS , which in turn leads to supporting sounds, reading and writing.
We work with local schools and encourage Teachers to visit students here at nursery before they go to school.
We take pictures of our children's teachers and talk about them regularly to reassure children about going to school. We have registration times morning and afternoon and use role play to support nursery to school transition.
10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
We have SEN coordinator who works alongside the manager to ensure we are offering the best care for each child. We share all information with Parents and decide the best form of support together. Often we can access details of local drop in centres or contact details for Parents and have a nursery support team in place when we need further guidance.
11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
Please call us directly or email us with a contact number. We love welcoming new families to our nursery and are always happy to show you around and answer any questions you may have.
12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
We encourage our Parents to contact the nursery manager directly in the first instance. We hope to resolve your query on site immediately and will always make time to speak with you.
Our Parents also have access to our Parent Portal via our company website that encourages Parents to join the forum, or contact our Nursery Support Team.
