Royal Berkshire Hospital - Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist
A fully integrated service for patients with epilepsy is now operational. This encompasses a diagnostic service and newly enhanced support for patient’s ongoing care through the epilepsy nurse specialist. There are now specific services for patients who are newly diagnosed with epilepsy, those who are transitioning from paediatric care and those who are considering pregnancy or are pregnant.
Our service for ongoing care is in line with the new NICE quality standards for epilepsy and good evidence based practice. The current referral criteria are:
- Newly diagnosed patients
- Transitioning from paediatric epilepsy services to adult epilepsy services
- Preconception counselling or those who are pregnant.
The referral pathway is currently by faxed/postal referral.
