Description

Welly Boot Lodge is a larger childminding setting, Kellie and her team offer places for full time childcare and pre school sessions. Welly Boot lodge combines the Montessori method with forest schooling to provide children with the best foundations to learn upon. Children who attend Welly Boot Lodge will be seen as individuals and their progress within their learning and development will be monitored closely to make sure each child develops within the early years foundation stage prime and key areas.

Children with additional needs will be cared for inclusively making sure that we can provide the specialist care needed for each child. Kellie has trained as a SENCO and holds a level 4 coordinator of SEN certificate. She was previously the lead for Send at the Village Montessori Nursery in Bradfield within her previous post.

Kellie and her team have a passion to support every child's learning and development and to prepare them for the transition to school phase. We pride ourselves with the ability to offer an outstanding education whilst nurturing and caring for our children. We have created a community here at Welly Boot Lodge that would welcome future families with open arms. We look forward to hearing from future families who maybe interested in becoming apart of our great community.

Reviewed October 2023

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Welly Boot Lodge is committed to working with parents and carers to better support children. We will be monitoring each child's development by making daily observations within each area of the early years foundation stage. When observing children we can gather the evidence needed to support any sen concerns or additional needs the child may have. We shall then highlight these concerns with the parents and work together to put the correct support in place. This may include adaptations within the setting, adapting our teaching methods and working with other outside professionals.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

Welly Boot Lodge will provide each child with an online learning journey using the portal - Tapestry. This can be shared with parents daily to create a great working relationship and to give parents the opportunity to play a key role within their child's learning and development. We also offer a  hard copy learning journal to provide a book of evidence that will be shared at parents evenings with parents and carers. We cater for both online and hard copies of learning journals so that transition to school is an informed process in which future teachers can access the child's reports and learning log. Some schools are yet to go online and so we are still offering the hard copy journals to cater for those schools.

Welly Boot Lodge will provide 2 year old progress checks. Welly Boot Lodge will offer termly learning and development short reports to all parents. Welly Boot Lodge is committed to making any formal reports needed to help support children with additional needs including support plans, EHCP and Pep meetings.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

Welly Boot Lodge uses the Montessori method of learning with their many Montessori resources collected over the years from Kellie's previous Montessori nursery teaching roles. Children will learn with the resources and be active learners throughout each area of the Early Year's Foundation Stage. Montessori resources are practical and sensorial and are an excellent aid for children with additional needs to have a hands on approach to their learning and development. Welly Boot Lodge will also adapt resources for children with additional needs and how the staff present the activities.

We also offer forest school learning activities and we very much theme our learning based around the seasons and the world around us. Children will learn a varied curriculum based around many cultures. Children will also become active young gardeners and farmers as they help to grow their own vegetables and fruits and tend to our garden.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

Welly Boot Lodge promotes inclusiveness and will adapt to the needs of any child in our care. We will work closely with outside professionals and the local authority to help access any additional support the child should require.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

The Lodge is not accessible to wheelchairs currently however we can put in a temporary ramp aid if this would ever be required for a child to access the setting.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

Welly Boot Lodge is committed to supporting children with transition to school. We will have group discussions upon what school life looks like, what we do at school and who will care for us at school. We shall invite the new school teacher to come and meet the child and their key adult. We shall help the new teacher to better understand the child and their needs by providing a full transition report on progress made within the EYFS. We shall help to create a transition picture book for each child and transport the child to their settling in days if this should be needed and we have the staff ratios to be able to.

We have a proven track record of working well with local schools to transition children and have a good track record with teachers coming to our setting to meet our children. Kellie is happy to give any time required to meetings with the new setting/school to help transition the child smoothly and to make sure that the continuity of care is carried through to the new setting/school.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

Welly Boot Lodge has much pride in its ability to support children with SEN and additional needs. We make continued evaluations of our professional practice and access CPD training throughout the year. Staff are trained to a high level of knowledge and are always wanting to improve their skills to impact the child in the best possible way. Staff work closely with the families and we ask parents for feedback continually throughout the term. This is done face to face with daily debriefs at handover and within meetings on a more private and formal scale. We work closely with other professionals and seek their feedback and support throughout the time that the child spends with us.
