SAFE! Support for Young People Affected by Crime
SAFE! Support for Young People Affected by Crime (“SAFE!”). There are two main projects
-
Young Victim Service supports young people who are dealing with the effects of crime. We have a number of workers, who can meet with young people face to face or online to help and support them. SAFE! is an independent charity and this service is provided free of charge. Anyone can refer themselves or a friend who lives in the Thames Valley (Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes). For 5-18 years (up to 25 years for those with additional needs).
-
Building Respectful Families is a service for families who are affected by Child to Parent Violence (CPV), across the Thames Valley. It is a restorative family focused approach rather than a parenting or anger management programme. The service continues to provide support for families during COVID-19, providing a mixture of remote and face-to-face support, where it is safe to do so. Please be aware that the Building Respectful Families project requires participants, both parents/carers and young people, to be able to reflect on their choices and behaviours and to be prepared and ready to work restoratively. The work we ask families to engage in can be challenging and emotionally draining. It is therefore important that this work is undertaken at the right time for the family. As we operate waiting lists it is important to be aware that when we are able to offer intervention may not be quite the right time for the family. Our team will help referrers to think about this with the family when an offer of direct work is made. For 8-18 years (up to 25 years for those with additional needs)
