Reading Families' Forum

Reading Families’ Forum are the local parent carer forum. Our board of trustees and steering group are all volunteers and have children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities ourselves. We understand what it is like to care for a child with additional needs and to fight for the services are children and their siblings need.
We are independent of Brighter Futures for Children and Reading Borough Council. As a parent carer forum, we work with parents, young people, education, health and social care to improve services for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities and their families.
Reading Families’ Forum meet service providers regularly at SEND Strategy Board meetings and various other working groups, always working to improve SEND services and make families’ lives easier.
We hold a meet up with parent carers at least every half-term so that families can talk to managers of the services they use and have a chance to talk to parents going through similar experiences. During Covid, these sessions are taking place monthly on Zoom.
We are always keen to hear from parents about how they are finding local services for their children. Let us know what is working for your family and what you want to see improved. It is a privilege to be a voice for SEND families.
The Forum are always keen for parents to join our steering group or become a Trustee.
