The British Red Cross provides short-term care & support for people following treatment at A&E Department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading. The service is free & confidential providing transport home from A&E in a specially adapted vehicle which can accommodate a wheelchair.
On arrival home support is provided by addressing immediate practical needs eg. checking heating, providing food & drink & contacting family & friends. A follow up telephone call will be made the following day.
The service is available to those aged of 50 living in Reading, Wokingham or West Berkshire & who have been treated in A&E at the Royal Berkshire Hospital & who need a helping hand getting and settling in at home.
Referrals are made via the Occupational Therapists at the A&E unit. The service is available Monday-Friday between 2pm - 8.30 pm.
