Community Falls Prevention Team
Falls are the biggest cause of hospital admissions but there are some simple steps that you can take to reduce the risk of this happening to you.
As you get older your deteriorating vision, hearing, balance, strength and coordination can all contribute to falling, while side effects from certain medication can also play a role.
Additionally, as your bone strength diminishes, you are more likely to break a bone such as the hip or wrist as a result of a simple slip, trip, fall or knock.
Regular eye tests and completing strength and balance exercises are beneficial to reducing the risk of falling.
Our team can help you to identify and address any risks before they become a problem, so that you can continue to enjoy life as you want to.
We will see you in your own home if you live in West Berkshire, Reading or Wokingham.
We can speak with the teams already involved in your care, for example district nurses, community matrons and community physiotherapists to discuss your needs.
The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy has developed an online animation showing a short series of safe and effective exercises older people can do on a regular basis to increase their muscle strength and reduce their likelihood of falling. The video is available in the section 'Related Links' on this page.
