Reading Mencap - Hear Our Voice Club
Hear Our Voice, formerly known as Coffee Club, meets every Monday from 10am – 1pm at the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL), Redlands Road, Reading RG1 5EX.
Hear Our Voice is a self-advocacy group, helping members to learn how to speak up for themselves, improve their communication skills and gain confidence in expressing what matters to them.
The group also encourages members to learn independence skills. There’s also the opportunity to have fun and members enjoy relaxation sessions, crafts and gardening.
An important role for Hear Our Voice is in offering Learning Disability Training for business in Reading. The group has previously worked with Reading Museum, The Oracle and the Job Centre.
The training helps businesses and organisations improve their knowledge of learning disability and increase their confidence in working with people with learning disabilities. Members have also worked with local organisations to test consumer experiences and provide feedback to improve accessibility for people with learning disabilities. Organisations who have benefitted from this work include The Museum of English Rural Life, Broad Street Mall and Starbucks.
This is a free club.
