Parenting Special Children - Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)

Pathological Demand Avoidance Course

A three part course for parents/carers of children and young people who present with the PDA profile of Autism, for those at an early stage in their ‘PDA journey’, who live, or attend a school, in Berkshire.

Although PDA cannot yet be formally diagnosed in its own right, there is growing awareness and recognition of the PDA profile as a distinct Autism Spectrum Condition that is best managed with specific strategies that can differ from those used for other types of Autism. This course is for parents and carers of young people who present with PDA, whether or not they have received any diagnosis. Please note that this course is best suited for those families who are relatively new to PDA and at an early stage in exploring PDA, as those who have already done a lot of research around PDA may find it covers material you already know.

Pathological Demand Avoidance and Schooling/Education Workshop

A single stand-alone session for parents and carers whose child/young person presents with the PDA profile of Autism, looking at ways to help them through the challenging area of education and schooling.

With statistics saying that ‘70% of PDA children are either not in school at all, or are struggling to attend on a regular basis’, it is widely recognised that schooling and education are very difficult areas for those young people who present with the PDA profile of autism. This session is aimed at looking at the whole topic of schooling and what can be done by families, schools and local authorities to support young PDA’ers in accessing their education.
