I am an Ofsted Registered Childminder in Reading.  I have been for over 20+ years.  I have NVQ3 Childcare, First Aid trained, CRB checked, annually checked by my Local Authority.  NVQ 2 Teaching Assistant, Makaton basic sign training.   My last Ofsted inspection was in June 2019 and it stayed the same which was GOOD, I can accept children who are eligible for the 2,3,4 year Funding.

In my setting, I value each child as an individual and plan activities and experiences suitable for their individual needs and development as well as their personal interests and preferences.

I regularly attend local Toddler Groups together with working with other childminders.  I daily go on outdoor activities albeit going for a woodland walks, feeding the ducks to playing in the park/animal parks.

I am a mother of two boys.  I live with my family and  have a large garden with all kinds of toys to cover all ages.   I do go on outings and actively encourage outdoor play both for the children as well as myself.

I have a full drivers licence which includes Business Insurance. I am with together with Public Liability.

I regularly attend Courses/Webinars to keep my progress up to date with the latest information.

Local Offer Reviewed - February 2024

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

I observe and asssess the children regularly during every day routines and activities.  I use assessment tools from Baby days and talk with parents frequently about the concerns they may have.  I use the information to make judgments against the Early Years Outcomes.  This allows me to share with families and concerns I may have about their childs development.

I also attend webinars/courses that can help me.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

As a childminder, I am responsible for all the planning for the children in my care.  However should the need arise then once I have permission by the family I will work with any necessary professionals (speech therapists etc) to support an I.E.P of a child.

I will of course keep families informed and consult with them to make decisions about the best methods too support their children through regular meetings, informal and formal discussion, ongoing assessments and monitoring, observations and information from Baby days.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

With the system Baby days this allows me to plan activties based on the individual needs of the children in my care.

My goal is to set obtainable Next Steps, this can be done through a variety of observations and their individual interests.

Parents also have access to this information so that they can follow their progress and should any milestones happen not in my care then they can add this to their Learning Journey.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

All activites are based on the childs individual needs and adapted acccording to their development stage.  I will work with families and other professsional to best support the childs needs, this can be done through a visual daily schedule, offer more sensory based materials etc

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I am always available and willing to work will local professionals, the local childrens centre/Sure Start Centers , and the Early Years team at Reading.  I also am prepared to attend training courses if need be.  As I am a lone worker, I can offer a child one-to-one support.

I also carry out  risk assessments for any outing or trips.  I work with parents and other professionals on how to best support any child who participants in activities and outings.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

I monitor your child using the Early Years outcomes.  This will be done through regular observations, assessments, next steps, 2 year checks etc.

All information is available to the parents at any time through Baby days.  However I specifically talk to the parents on a regular occassion to ask if they are concerned about anything.  I operate a "open house" policy and I do ask parents if they have any feedback they wish to comment on also.

I do encourage parents to access this information as together we can work as a team as early intervention is vital.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

Safety and inclusion are my highest priority as a childminder.  Therefore I work withing my ratio, this ensures the safety of the children in my care and allows me to be available to support the individual needs of the children.

I can give the children lots of individual attention, help and  support the needs of the children so they can join in with any appropriate activities.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

I have attended Makaton courses, I have bathroom facilities downstairs and access for a wheelchair.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

Transition to a new setting is a team effort.  I am happy (when possible) to visit the new setting with your child, liaise with them to ensure that they are aware of any information that is needed.

Also with permission I am happy to share information and vice versa should the child/ren be combined.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

I invite parents to complete questionnaires (copies are given to Ofsted when I am inspected), this allows families to comment on their overall reactions to my work with their child.  I also ask parents to give feedback whenever they feel it is needed.

I am registered with Ofsted and do have inspections and compliance visits from Reading Borough.  I have also self-evaluate the effectiveness of all aspects of my regularly and make changes and improvements frequently.

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

I actively encourage families to share any questions or concerns with me, at all times.  It is my hope that we can work collaboratively to resolve any concerns as quickly as possible.  I have a formal complaint policy which I follow, also my yearly questionnaire allows families to comment on their overall reactions to my work with their child.

I believe the children should be happy, smiley and learn through play however a little structure when needed to important progress forward in life
