The Honey Bee Day Care is a community day care conveniently located in the heart of East Reading at the edge of Palmer Park A329 side, with plenty of space and facilities. We welcome children and families from all sections of the local community including funded and paying places.
We ensure that the existence of our setting is widely advertised in places accessible to all sections of the community.
The Honey Bee Day Care is owned and run by Prima Edu Limited which is an education company that owns the Honey Bee Pre-School in West Reading. The company also provides accredited qualifications in Early Childhood education.
The backgrounds of the children in our setting reflect the diversity of the local area and beside English currently include Polish, Hungarian, Indian, Arabic and Pakistani.
We provide early years education for children aged 3 months - 5 years and operate in a large purposely-built child care facility including an abundance of resources. Our management and highly qualified staff are committed to deliver supreme quality care and education and possess long track record of experience in childcare.
We have high staff ratio and can accommodate up to 59 children. Outdoor learning is very important to us, we have a large, secure outdoor area as well as access to a large section of Palmer Park
We operate an equal opportunities policy and welcome children with additional needs and those for whom English is an second language.

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
Through a key person system, observation and assessment, open dialogue with parents and communication with outside agencies and professionals.
2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
If your child already has a recognised need when they join our setting, we will meet with you before they start to discuss this with you and plan how we can best support them. We will ask for any advice you have been given by other professionals involved in your child’s care and endeavour to implement their suggestions.
If upon joining our setting, we recognise that your child would benefit from additional support, we will arrange an initial meeting with you to discuss this. We will maintain constant communication with you throughout your child’s time with us
3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
The Honey Bee day care will provide a broad and differentiated curriculum for all children with SEN/disabilities. An Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be set to meet the needs of each child.
4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Our key workers will plan appropriate activities, which employ the use of visual aids and props to enable children to meet the goals set for them in their Individual Learning Plan.
5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
We will seek advice and support from other outside agencies such as Speech and Language Therapy/ Occupational Therapy/Educational Psychology. We also have a number of staff members who have multi-linguistic skills for assisting those children for whom English is an additional Language.
6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
Your child’s progress and development will be constantly monitored by their key worker to ensure that they are making progress and to plan for the next steps. A new Individual Learning Plan will be drawn up each term, with new goals being set where necessary. You will be invited to an informal meeting each term.
You will be informed at all stages of the assessment, planning, provision and review of your child’s education.
7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
They will be given extra support to enable participation if needed. The activity will be adapted where necessary to ensure that all children are able to participate.
8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
Our building is purposely-built day care by the Reading Borough Council to ensure that mobility and accessibility needs are properly met. The building contains ramps for wheel chairs, accessible toilets and all doorways support accessible needs.
9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
Your child’s key worker will work with your child to improve independent skills, interactive stories will be used to prepare children for the transition to school. We also liase with your childs new setting and arrange a teacher from the new school to attend our setting once a place has been issued to introduce his/herself to your child. All relevant information will be shared with the new school to ensure a smooth transition.
10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
It is discussed and evaluated during staff meetings and feedback is sought from parents.
