1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
We have a tracking system which allows us to decipher whether children are achieving in their stage of learning and development and activities are put in place to help them develop in this area. Our children decide what activities they would like by choosing different resources and linking to their current interests. We work very closely with our parents who input into their child's development. We have a qualified SENCO who can work with our parents to link them to various support services in the area if further assistance is required.
2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
The practitioners provide face to face feedback every day and we have two parents evening a year to discuss any areas of concern or achievement. We also discuss the tracking system results wth parents on completion. We use on online assessment to observe, record and track children's development. We also use a parent app to inform parents about the children's fun day at nursery and use this app to send and receive home observations.
3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
Dependant on the child's individual needs and interests we would adapt the activities provided so all children could take part. All our resources are available for the children at all times and we provide 'in the now planning' which is very flexible.
4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
Depending on the child's needs would depend on how best to ensure their development and learning. Whether it be additional resources, outside support or internal training. We have a dedicated SENCO who would work closely with our parents to determine the best strategy.
5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
We provide a child led and child initiated play based learning system which would provide activities and support using the child’s interests as a base and external support or guidance to ensure the children are securely provided for.
6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
All reports and tracking are shared with the parent at the time of completion. Parents are encouraged to inform the child’s key person of any activities they enjoy at home and anything they have observed the child achieving.
7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
All activities can be adapted and altered to ensure all children can take part. The key person would inform those in charge of any particular requirements ie..wheel chair access, reins, low stimulation or audio enhancement to name a few. We are an all inclusive nursery.
8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
All our rooms and facilities are on one floor with spacious corridors.
9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
We provide documents for other settings and teachers to inform them of your child's known interests and learning needs. We encourage school visits and to have teachers come to the setting to visit the children in a familiar setting.
10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
Regular key person meetings, observations and planning. Other agencies to support when required.
11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
Jenna Wharton - Nursery Manager 01189475502 or info@bananamoon-caversham.co.uk
12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
We have an open door policy and encourage any feedback from parents and visitors to continue our professional development.
