Early Years Private, Voluntary & Independent Settings

Description

A home from home setting with a large garden and access to Lousehill Copse.

Updated - February 2024

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Follow the EYFS which guides where a child should be at age wise, talk with parents, contact appropriate support groups.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

On collection or drop off of child to setting, a meeting if requested and through updates on your child's progress on babysdays.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

Where possible changes will be made to accommodate child's needs when informed by parents or support group about child's development and milestones and any symptoms or changes observed.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

I would work in partnership with parents to identify any requirements and to ensure all needs are being met. It is difficult to give a definitive answer as every child is unique and therefore each child will need different level of support. I think it is best to discuss this with me on an individual basis.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I will follow the parents lead when they inform me of what would be ideal for the setting to support child with Sen or send.  I will also follow the child's interests to ensure learning is fun and engaging for them.  My setting is very woodland orientated, with my garden being large but with a steep slope, this maybe difficult for some children to access, although also provides and excellent environment for those who may struggle with being indoors.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

I uses babysdays secure online system to record progress then is available for parents to view and report feedback.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

After discussion with parents incorporate ideas into any activities so any SEND child can join in. Discussion with parents to support child will be important and a requirement in my setting.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

No wheelchair access.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

I will talk to your child about school, teach your child to be independent in regards to taking coat off, dressing appropriately (hats, gloves and shoes), support independent toileting, support independent feeding with cutlery, recognise own name and possibly even write own name.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

Parents will be continually consulted. As parents you will be kept up to date with your child's progress and care. You will also have access to daily photos and progress via Babys Days (an online system) which is written for 2-way communication between yourself and me. The photos are also prompts for communication between yourself and your child about their day in my care. Joint working with parents is always mutually beneficial- especially for your child.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

Caroline Thyer-Jones

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

I use babysdays which allows parents to give feedback via daily online comments on photos taken, send private messages and provide compliments and complaints.  I also have a a complaints policy that I will follow if any complaint arises.
