Local Offer Updated - November 2023

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Each child that attends Emmer Green Pre-school has two key persons, who build a relationship and observes the individual child identifying their needs, we monitor all children  and discuss at staff meetings any concerns. Families  are offered settling in sessions before they start. We offer an open door policy for Parents/Carers to come in to talk to any staff, we also offer open mornings when Parents /Carers can come in to talk to keyperson about their child's development.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

Prior to  starting at Emmer Green Pre-school parents/carers may book a visit and we then offer more visits where parents/carers can stay to help the child settle in. We also offer home visits to all our families, this is where the key person starts to build a relationship with the family and discuss any concerns. Parents  can talk to key persons at any session and we also have open mornings where parents can talk to their key person and get an update on their child's progress. When you get offered a place at Emmer Green Pre-School we try to fit in visits for your child as this helps to settle them when they start.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

We implement a very good record keeping system, in which observations of the children in the group and at home are used for each child, key persons also complete individual planning for children's next steps. These form together their learning journeys. These records are available for the parents to see and can be discussed at parents/carers open days in full with the key person, or at end of sessions. We use in the moment planning where the environment has different activities using different materials to interest all children.

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

We at Emmer Green Pre-School provide and support children with specific needs by using visual prompts, staff have done Makaton training ,use of their home language and adapting language where possible and work together with the child's family, all other professionals involved to achieved their aims. Staff plan and support children for targeted activities designed to help the child make progress in their area of need.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

We can provide support needed from other professionals eg.,Educational Psychology Service, Health Visitor, Speech and Language, etc. We regularly meet with the families to discuss any needs and progress of the individual child's outcomes and give help and support. Parents /Carers can talk to the supervisor and key persons at drop off or pick up.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

We assess individual childrens progress by using the Early Years outcomes, two year old progress checks, regular observations, IEP's and complete an individual learning journey. We review progress of children indentified with SEND, using IEP's 6/8 weeks depending on the individuals needs. We complete summaries for all children on a regular basis, and parents /carers are invited to our open mornings where we discuss any concerns and targets.

Each child is treated individually and encouraged to build their confidence, self esteem, relationships and gain independence.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

We try to provide any  resouces, activities, strategies  and any reasonable adjustments to ensure the inclusion of the individual child. We complete daily risk assesments for specific situations and children and health and safety of all children who attend Pre-School.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

The Pre-School building is accessible for wheelchairs and we have disabled toilets, we try and provide for all children with disabilities.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

We offer home visits to all new children starting at our Pre-School. The purpose of a home visit is to help the child, their family and the key person to get to know more about each other in the home environment and to ensure that we maintain confidentiality.

We work in partnership with parent/carers as they are children's first and most enduring educators.

We work together with parents and practioners sharing information they have about the child and what support he/she needs.

We work with the local Primary Schools, and in the Summer Term the Transition Officer and Supervisor attend the Primary Schools to bring back ideas and suggestions.

Parents are able to do extra visits before their child starts,we work with all families to help settle their child.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

We are available to discuss any information with parents/carers on a daily basis, we provide open mornings for parents to come in to talk to their child's  keyperson to see their child's learning journey, the child's  achievements and next steps. We discuss any speech and language, monitoring  tool, IEP's and any other SEN concerns on a regular basis.
