Walk to School Week - 16th to 20th May 2022

Walk to School Week logo

Following the success last year when 23 schools signed up we will be promoting Living Streets’ Walk to School Week again in 2022. Walk to School Week will take place from 16th to 20th May and is a five-day walking challenge in celebration of the walk to school - the perfect activity to celebrate National Walking Month this May.

Reading Borough Council is working with Living Streets to support Walk to School Week and will fund class room packs for schools that would like to participate. If you think your school would like to participate or would like to discuss this further please contact  a member of the Transport Planning team at transport@reading.gov.uk. The deadline for ordering packs is 13th April but you are of course welcome to promote Walk to School Week without ordering packs and we will be doing our own promotion of walking to school this week too.

Each class will work collectively to make as many active journeys to school as possible across the week. This year’s challenge, #PowerUp, will engage pupils through video game-inspired design, encouraging them to travel sustainably to school every day of the week. Each day will see a level unlocked and a new mission to complete, through which pupils will discover the incredible benefits of walking for individuals, communities and the planet. More information can be found bellow and at the link WTSW

Individual activity diaries, daily stickers and end of week pupil rewards will complement this activity, reinforcing the benefits and keeping children engaged. Classroom packs contain resources for up to 30 pupils and are available in two variants featuring differing, age-appropriate curriculum-aligned activities.

  • KS1- for P1-3 including reception
  • KS2 – for P4-7

Inside each pack you’ll find:
