Your Destiny Your Choice

Your Destiny Your Choice, or YDYC, is how we make sure that young people in care with Reading Borough Council are able to have a real say and influence over services which work with them.

Any young person in, or leaving, care has the opportunity to get involved, including if you are living outside of Reading - the following are just some of the ways you can get involved:

YDYC Leadership Group - Meet once every half-term, this group meet with Councillors and council managers, plan events and get involved in meetings.

YDYC Recruitment - As a group of young people, you will interview those people going for jobs such as Social-Workers, and help decide who will get the job.

YDYC Inspect - be young-inspectors - visit different places which work with young people and tell them what you think, and what needs to be improved.

YDYC Train - get involved in developing and delivering training to those who work with young people in care, including carers, social-workers and managers.

YDYC Active - attend activities such as the Big Easter Event - an active and fun element, but also the opportunity to take part in getting your ideas heard.

There is no requirement to give up a minimum amount of time - why not give it a go and see if you enjoy it?

You can find details on each of these opportunities from this page (click on the above links), as well as see what has been achieved.
